Our Membership Interview Process

An elder of Church of the Word and the member applicant will discuss and review the following interview process material. During this time, the member applicant and elder can discuss any questions the applicant may have about what it means to be a member at Church of the Word. Upon completion of the interview process, the Church of the Word elder team will discuss the interview and decide whether membership can be given or whether more consideration and further discussion is necessary.

Part 1 – Personal Story and History

Answer The Following Questions:

  • How did you become a Christian (Personal Testimony)?
  • When were you baptized?
  • What types of Churches have you attended?
  • Did you leave your last church on good terms? Do you have any concerns if we try to contact your prior church leadership?

Part II – Review and Discuss Confessional Statement

Read together each section of the Statement of Faith and answer the following questions after each section

1. The Tri-une God

  • Do you believe that there is only one God?
  • Do you believe there are three eternal persons within the Godhead?
  • Do you believe in God the Father?
  • Do you believe that Jesus is God the son?
  • Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?
  • Is there anything in this paragraph that you disagree with or need clarified?

2. Revelation

  • Do you believe the Bible to be the Word of God?
  • Do you believe that any of the sixty-six books of the Bible should not be there?
  • Do you believe there are other books that should be in the Bible that are not among the sixty-six books of the Bible?
  • Do you believe that the Bible is authoritative and without error in the original manuscripts?
  • Do you believe that the scriptures are sufficient for all that God requires of us to believe and do?
  • Is there anything in this paragraph that you disagree with or need clarified?

3. Creation of Humanity

  • Do you believe God created all things?
  • Do you believe in the beginning God created human beings as male and female in his own image?
  • Is there anything in this paragraph that you disagree with or need clarified?

4. The Fall

  • Do you believe you are a sinner?
  • Do you believe the wrath of God toward sinners is just, right and good?
  • Is there anything in this paragraph that you disagree with or need clarified?

5. The Plan of God
*Repent: A change of mind that results in a change of action (Acts 26:20)

  • Is there anything in this paragraph that you disagree with or need clarified?

6. The Gospel
Do you believe Jesus has died for your sins?

  • Is there anything in this paragraph that you disagree with or need clarified?

7. The Redemption of Christ

  • Is there anything in this paragraph that you disagree with or need clarified?

8. The Justification of Sinners

  • Is there anything in this paragraph that you disagree with or need clarified?

9. The Power of the Holy Spirit

  • Is there anything in this paragraph that you disagree with or need clarified?

10. The Kingdom of God

  • Is there anything in this paragraph that you disagree with or need clarified?

11. God’s New People

  • Is there anything in this paragraph that you disagree with or need clarified?

12. Baptism and the Lord’s Supper

  • Is there anything in this paragraph that you disagree with or need clarified?

13. The Restoration of All Things

  • Is there anything in this paragraph that you disagree with or need clarified?

Part 3 – Constitution/Church Government

Read and discuss the Statement of Church Government. Upon completion, answer the following questions:

  • Is there anything in the constitution that you disagree with or need clarified?
  • Do you have any questions about anything?
  • Do you agree and/or commit to the following:
  • Have you been baptized into the Christian Church following a profession of faith?
  • Do you demonstrate an understanding of and agree to the Statement of Faith?
  • Do you agree to attend regularly?
  • Do you commit to a scriptural practice of tithing?
  • Do you comprehend what being a member entails?
  • Will you endeavor to live a life pleasing to the Lord?
  • Are you willing to consent to this form of church government by becoming a member of Church of the Word?
